This online class in overtone singing basics includes listening practise for the Tuvan techniques, but not singing the Tuvan or Mongolian techniqes of throat singing, which are on an advanced level.

The Three Modules

  • This is the best starting point for the absolute beginner with no prior experience of hearing her own overtones. It invites you to forget everything you thought you knew about your voice, to open your ears and mouth as if for the first time.

Week 2
  • Practise 4 Basic Techniques of overtone singing

  • Learn about 3 basic techniques of khöömei (Tuvan throat singing)

  • Receive clear guidance on making various mouth shapes

  • Includes illuminating graphics

Week 3

  • Dive into vowel overtones to make overtone patterns

  • Identify basic overtone singing techniques by ear

is Mark van Tongeren, a singer and musicologist who has had first-hand experience with all of the traditions of overtone / throat singing and is deeply involved with the modern world of overtone singing, for over three decades. He has recorded, interviewed and studied with dozens and dozens of Tuvan, Mongolian, Tibetan, South African, Sardinian and contemporary musicians.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole course last?

The course spans 4 weeks. During the first 3 weeks, you'll receive one module per week via email. You’ll also have the opportunity to join two of Mark’s live Q&A sessions during the first three weeks, followed by a final live session in the fourth week.

Do I have to be a singer?

You don't have a to be a 'professional singer' to join the course. No previous musical experience is required. If you love to sing, or are simply curious about your voice, this is the course for you!

What if I can't make it to the live session(s)?

No worries! They will be recorded so you can watch the replay afterwards. If you have some questions that you would like to ask Mark, please submit your questions to Mark (mark@fusica.nl) before the live session.
